The Gran Torino
Have you seen this movie yet?
It's intentionally harsh and crude in order to more dramatically tell a tale of relationship and community.
Today, my friend, Larry James, writes about the powerful message of community building in the film.
I was more struck by the role table fellowship plays in the film. It was a Hmong meal (and beer) that finally broke down barriers between the neighbors and initiated relationship. Table fellowship continued to bind them together. It was table fellowship that built a love so deep, that it was capable of self sacrifice.
Gran Torino is a rich film that digs deep into life, death, relationships, community, and love. If you can stand the bad language, I highly recommend it.
