Road to the World Cup

Isaac has started playing soccer this fall. It's a lot of fun. I laugh a lot during the practices and games. These 5 yr olds are so funny. They fall down a lot. Some of them already have skills in making injuries much more dramatic than they really are, just like professional soccer players do.

We play in a league that plays 3 vs. 3 with no goalies. That helps a lot, since at this age, the kids tend to get into a pack and kick each other until someone gets lucky enough to make contact with the ball. We don't keep score. The biggest challenges of the game are to keep the ball in bounds and to kick it in the general direction of the other team's goal.

Here are some highlights:
Isaac tends to be defensive minded. For the most part he'd prefer to run to defend the goal than to run to the ball.

Isaac on the back peddle.

Making sure they're all on the same page. After the game I asked what they were talking about in the huddle. He said "the plan". I asked what the plan was. He said they were planning to score 42 goals before the other team scored 42 goals. Sounds like a good game plan to me.

From an unbiased perspective he really looks good in the uniform, and everyone know that it's not how you play, but how you look. Just ask A-Rod! When he gets to a level where there is offense and defense he definitely will be a D- man.

Your son is such a cutie.

I wish I could see you again at Zoe this year, but I decided it would be too much travel for Charlotte. We have 2 weddings to travel to (one in Puerto Rico) in November, so we thought that would be enough.

Hopefully we'll see you next year.
