Home Again, Home Again

We did indeed make it back from Nashville. The Zoe Conference was fantastic. I haven't yet sat down and processed it all yet, simply because I haven't yet had time. Since I missed Mon and Tues in the office, I've been behind all week. I've still got quite a bit to do tomorrow, but I'm hoping to get some Zoe reflections down on paper this weekend. I'll be sure to share when I get it done.

...

Ethan and Jaylie both have colds, which kind of makes us all miserable. Hopefully they'll get well soon.

...

We watched "Glory Road" the other night. It's a B- movie about Texas Western winning the NCAA championship as they blazed the trail of allowing African Americans to play at the Div 1 level.

...

I'll get back to posting regulary as soon as I catch up on work and sleep.

Nashville Bound

Tomorrow morning we are heading to Nashville to attend the Zoe Worship and Leader Conference. I'm looking forward to it a great deal. Events like this are always a refreshing and inspiring time. I also know it will be a blessing to see several faces that I haven't seen in some time.

Pray for us while we're on the road. With 3 kids, ages 5 and under, we don't do road trips well. It usually tries everyone's patience.

In Nash, we'll stay with my parents. We'll also get to see my sister and her husband and their kids.

This will also be the first Sunday in a good long while that I haven't led worship. It will be a nice break to be able to worship without thinking about the technical side of worship. I cherish times like that.

....

Tonight while I was singing to Isaac and Ethan, Isaac started giving me encouragement as if I was preaching.

Me: Close your eyes baby of mine...
Isaac: Yeah!

Me: Don't you cry baby of mine...
Isaac: That's right!

Me: Lay your head close to my heart, never to part, baby of mine...
Isaac: (even more enthusiastically) That's right!

Of course by this point we were both cracking up. Kids are funny.

Road to the World Cup

Isaac has started playing soccer this fall. It's a lot of fun. I laugh a lot during the practices and games. These 5 yr olds are so funny. They fall down a lot. Some of them already have skills in making injuries much more dramatic than they really are, just like professional soccer players do.

We play in a league that plays 3 vs. 3 with no goalies. That helps a lot, since at this age, the kids tend to get into a pack and kick each other until someone gets lucky enough to make contact with the ball. We don't keep score. The biggest challenges of the game are to keep the ball in bounds and to kick it in the general direction of the other team's goal.

Here are some highlights:
Isaac tends to be defensive minded. For the most part he'd prefer to run to defend the goal than to run to the ball.

Isaac on the back peddle.

Making sure they're all on the same page. After the game I asked what they were talking about in the huddle. He said "the plan". I asked what the plan was. He said they were planning to score 42 goals before the other team scored 42 goals. Sounds like a good game plan to me.
