Crazy weekend
What a crazy weekend.
Friday Dixie and I went to see the Spurs beat the T'Wolves. That was a treat! It's fun to go to the games.
On Saturday we had a couple appointments to show the house, but the first people never showed up. By 11:30 in the morning we hadn't had a phone call or a showing and I was getting depressed. I shouldn't have worried. At noon people came to look at the house and then we had non stop traffic in the house from noon till 4:30. I think we showed it to 4 different parties, and a realtor came by to visit with us (i.e. offer to sell it for us), and while we were trying to show it we had probably 5 or so calls about it. I felt better about it after all that. Also, it turns out that a family in our LIFE group would really like to buy it, so we might be able to work that out. We'd love for them to have the house, so we're going to try to hold it for them, although we've been told by two people that they are bringing offers tomorrow. In any case, it looks like we are going to be able to sell it ourselves which will save us a ton of money. It's funny how just as I started to worry about it, the Lord provided.
Then Sunday came around. I went to church at 7:45 for praise team stuff. Dixie and the kids came to class and second service. Then we went to Johnny Carino's for lunch with Sam and Carol. Oh my goodness it was a long lunch. It took about 20 minutes to get a table. That's not a huge deal, I guess. We looked at the menus while we waited for a table so we could order as soon as we sat down. We always tend to rush at restaraunts because the kids only last for so long before they get really restless. Our food took about 45 minutes to get to the table. And, when it finally got there, my pizza was wrong. Come on, Mr. Carino, you need to do better than that. Of course by this time the two little ones were way overdue for their naps and they were pretty miserable. We finally made it out to the van and the battery was dead. Ugh. Sam gave us a jump and we got home by about 2:30.
On the way home we listened to "Sweet Southern Comfort" over and over again. That's all we listen to in the car right now. Isaac thinks it is great that a real song mentions Georgia, San Antonio, and Mississippi - all places where we have lived, live, or will live. The fact that his Uncle Brad wrote the song doesn't really interest him - he just thinks it's cool that he knows those placenames. Ha! Isaac knows the chorus to the song. I tried to get him to call Uncle Brad and sing it to him on the phone, but he wouldn't do it. Roll Tide Roll! (Does the version they play in Austin say "Hook 'Em Horns" instead of "Roll Tide Roll"??)
We checked the answering machine when we got home hoping for more interest in the house and to our surprise, we had 6 messages already. We showed the house 3 more times Sunday afternoon. And two out of the three are planning to bring offers tomorrow. We'll see...
Anyway it's been busy.
As I embark on this adventure the Lord has set before me (both the immediate future of moving to MS, and the longterm adventure that we call "life") I am getting really excited.
The Shawshank Redemption is one the best movies ever made. I think my excitement and hope can by summed up by Red's narration as he is riding the bus to Mexico to join his friend Andy after he has finally made parole:
"I find I am so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it is the excitement only a free man can feel, a free
man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain...I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend
and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope." - Red
Or, more personally...
I find I am so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it is the excitement only a free man in Christ can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is certain...I hope I can make it across the Jordan. I hope to see my Savior and be wrapped in his arms of love. I hope His light is as bright as it has been in my dreams. I hope.
And these three things remain: Faith, Hope, and Love....I long for the day that we will no longer have need of faith and hope, and love will completely envelope us.

Great thoughts; loved the Shawshank quote and your re-working of it...beautiful. Glad that there's so much interest in the house as well, relieving that burden. May God continue to encourage you through this (immediate, as well as life) journey.
We have been to Carrino's a couple of times and have had lousy service on both occasions. I think there is better food , better service and cheaper prices other places in the area. One thing for sure we don't lack for food choices in this town. Hope you got some good offers on your house.
